Constitution

The Atlantic Sea Board Franchise of Lew Geffen Sotheby's International Reality has created a cycling club called the "Velo Altantico". The club has four racing teams one in each of the four categories, namely Elite, Sub-Veterans, Veterans and Ladies. In addition there will be an open category for non-racing members. The racing Teams are referred to as "Team Sotheby's" and will ride in a racing kit different to general kit. There are currently approximately 20 racing members and over 30 non-racing members. The non-racing membership will grow to over 100 in the next few months.

Club Ethos

The ethos of the club "Velo Altantico" is two fold:

  • Provide sponsorship to enthusiastic disadvantaged cyclist in our community
  • Sponsor talented and aspiring cyclist in the racing teams. (To date our racing teams have been winning racing with podium finished resulting in press exposure.)
  • Create a cycling club where members join knowing that through their membership they in turn are promoting and sponsoring cycling and thus giving back to their community.

A Club with a Difference

Currently Sotheby's have already initiated the NOAH project, a charity project to help AIDS orphans in the townships. The cycling project will run in parallel and it is "Velo Atlantica's" intention to get media coverage to further promote the cycling cause in the Western Cape. Part of this campaign will include appealing to the cycling community at large to donate unused bicycles to our "disadvantaged cyclists".

Mission Statement

Sotheby's objective, the Club's objectives and its sponsor's objectives are to build and promote cycling and more importantly to support and sponsor talented and enthusiastic cyclist with particular focus on cyclist from our disadvantaged community.
